Matar paneer is an Indian curry dish made with green peas and Indian cottage cheese from the versatile Northern Indian cuisine that has many different (and delicious) variations. You can enjoy this flavorful dish any time of the year because it’s easy to make.

Just follow these step-by-step instructions on cooking mutter paneer from scratch, and you won’t believe how good it tastes. Serves: 4

Ingredients:

  • 500 gms of soft and fresh cottage cheese or Paneer cut into cubes
  • Refined oil
  • Salt as per your taste
  • 1-inch ginger paste
  • 1 spoon garlic paste
  • Peeled peas 1 cup
  • One large onion chopped
  • Two tomatoes chopped
  • 2 green chillies
  • Half a bowl of cashew
  • Half bowl of chopped coriander/ cilantro
  • Half tsp of cumin
  • Half tsp of Garam masala
  • Half tsp of red chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1-inch cinnamon

Preparation:

  • In a blender add the chopped tomatoes, onions and chillies
  • Turn it into a fine paste, add 2-3 spoons of water if required
  • Add cashew into the paste and blend it into a smooth paste
  • In a pan add 2 tsp of refined oil
  • Add half-inch of cinnamon along with cumin
  • Add the green chillies
  • Stir well and add ginger-garlic paste
  • Add the blended paste to the pan and stir well
  • Add salt for taste
  • Add the peeled peas along with half a cup of water and stir
  • Place a lid on the pan and keep it on low flame
  • Add the paneer cubes and stir well.
  • Place the lid and cook on a medium flame for 20 minutes
  • Turn off the flame and put the chopped cilantro and place the lid on
  • Serve after 5 minutes

Tip: If the cottage cheese/ paneer is a little stiff, boil it for a few minutes in hot water. It will immediately turn soft. In case of adding a little texture, coat it with a little cornflour and then deep fry it.
